Just for today

This simple phrase helps me find spoonfuls of wellbeing in my day.

It comes from the Reiki Precepts, a set of simple teachings for “inviting happiness”, taught by Reiki Masters since the 1920s.

“Just for today” can be particularly helpful for people living with chronic illness. This simple phrase reminds us to take our challenges one day at a time. It invites us to release any anger, frustration and self-recrimination about the past. And it offers relief from worrying about the future.

Try it for yourself.

Close your eyes and take a slow breath in. As you breathe out, release tension from your body and say gently to yourself, “Just for today”. Then allow your mind to rest quietly for as long as you are able.
